Staff

MOVB instructors have taught over 100,000 students over the
past 50 years throughout West Virginia and Ohio. Students who
have completed the MOVB program have been offered over $350,000.00
in scholarships and award to colleges, universities and national
and international dance companies here and abroad.
Artistic Director
Suzy Gunter plans and supervises all of the programs
at the MOVB School. She also directs and instructs Arts in Education
programs in West Virginia and Ohio. Trained extensively under
David Howard, NYC; Gus Giordano, Chicago, and JoAnna Kneeland,
Harkness House. Ms. Gunter is a principal dancer with the MOVB
and choreographs many of their productions and teaches the pre-school
and intermediate programs at the school.
MOVB Executive Director
N. J. Gunter received her early training in the prestigious
schools of New York City. Instructing and directing dance for
over 50 years, she has been a member of DEA and PDTA and was
instrumental in the development of the Parkersburg Civic Ballet
Company in 1981 -- now a professional dance company, the Mid
Ohio Valley Ballet Company. Mrs. Gunter plans and supervises
the ballet program in the MOVB School.
Music Director
Joy Held has an extensive background in music and dance.
With over 25 years of professional experience, Joy is also a
published journalist and a graduate of Glenville State College.
Joy has directed the school KinderMusik program for over 7 years
and currently teaches yoga/fitness and the Joyful Music Makers.
Education Director
Terry Donne Gunter is a graduate of Glenville State
College and a public school teacher. With over 15 years in the
education field, Terry is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Education.
A dancer for over 20 years, she now supervises and oversees curriculum
development of the MOVB Arts in Education programs.
Artistic Advisors
Mark Jelks is an accomplished pianist, dancer, teacher
and conductor. Mark was a duel Music and Dance Major at Birmingham-Southern
College. Mark has played piano for Paris Opera School, New York
City Ballet and the School of American Ballet. Mark has been
an instructor at Broadway Dance Center, Ballet Academy East,
David Howard Seminars.
Brian Palmer is accomplished in both Ballet and Modern
Dance. Brian attended Radford University and has recently retired
from performing for the past 10 seasons with Richmond Ballet.
He is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Dance at Florida
State University. He has been instructor for the Richmond Arts
in Education programs and at Radford University as well as a
Master Teacher at the MOVB Summer Intensives for 8 years.
