The Mid Ohio Vallet Ballet Company is the first and only professional touring ballet company in the state of West Virginia. MOVB grew from the regional company, the Parkersburg Civic Ballet, incorporated in 1982. MOVB established itself as a professional company in 1994. MOVB has since developed a reputation for outstanding, exciting dance programs and the highly acclaimed "School Days Performing Arts Series" that brings the art of dance and education together for over 30,000 school children annually. MOVB presents four major productions each season, performing over 100 concerts a year. MOVB is dedicated to quality performances, training and education, and the preservation of classical ballet.
MOVB currently has six professional dancers and ten apprentice dancers. Prominent, highly acclaimed guest artists round out the company. A repertory of classical, contemporary and story ballet works are available for booking October through May.
The Academy of Fine Arts is the official school of the ballet company. N. J. Gunter serves as the Executive Director. Artistic Director Suzy Gunter oversees the company performance development and the academy. Brian Palmer and Mark Jelks serve as Artistic Advisors and Permanent Guest Faculty members.
MOVB is funded in part by ArtsBridge. Declared as the official dance company in our area, MOVB prides itself on being a vital cultural asset contributing to the quality of life in the Mid Ohio Valley and the State of West Virginia.
